Henry Bartlett
Biography | Medals | GlossaryBiography
Born near Salisbury in Wiltshire, he was a porter before he enlisted in the Rifle Brigade at Dublin in 1881, aged 22 years. He transferred to 2 DLI in 1882 and served in Egypt. He took his discharge in 1887 and joined 4 (Militia) DLI at Newcastle, rising to the rank of Colour Sergeant. His medal has the bar "Suakin 1885" to which he was not entitled, though his photograph - taken with 4 DLI in the 1890's - shows him wearing this bar.
